Breast Reduction Surgery

Women with large and heavy breasts may suffer from a wide variety of issues including neck strain, shoulder and back pain, loss of mobility, decreased exercise tolerance, skin rashes and others. Fortunately, many or all of these symptoms can be eliminated with a safe and reliable procedure performed on an outpatient basis.

Patients who present with large breasts that are sagging, have nipples that are positioned very low or have too much skin or volume will require a procedure called an "inverted T" or Wise pattern breast reduction. This procedure allows maximal lift, reduction in volume and improvement in the form of a woman's breasts. The scars tend to heal very well and are surprisingly inconspicuous. For the vast majority of patients, the negative feelings of having scars on their breasts is greatly overshadowed by the improvement in form and aesthetic appearance. Liposuction may be combined with this procedure in order to optimize results.

A breast reduction is performed under a light general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The procedure usually lasts from 1.5 to 2 hours and patients leave the hospital with only a light bandage on each breast. A swift and uneventful recovery following breast reduction allows most patients to return to work within a few days following surgery.
